Rev Christy David Daniel
Rev. Christy David Daniel is our new Sevananilayam Chaplain This is his first assignment as a Presbyter. He is not new to The works of the Sevananilayam because he was our Asst. Vicar at the Ascension Church and just because of that needs no special introduction. Well, the reason he is here as Chaplain is because he has proven himself to be efficient, no doubt.
Energetic, spirited, committed, he holds great respect for our past virtuous European Missionaries who showed us by their life examples and accepted their vision that the best missionary work is ‘commitment to society’ which plainly translates ‘LOVE THY NEIGHBOR”. Our new young Deacon firmly believes that a few words of comfort and our presence with the family of a dying person or holding the hand of a hope-lost ‘dead man walking’, is the purest, simplest missionary way to transfer God and His love than offering materialistic help. This idea of ‘commitment to society’ extracted from the communist ideology didn’t start in him just today living in our present wasting society; not yesterday while he was on probation in Vellore ‘Beth-za-tha’ where he really saw the destitute families, helplessly sharedtheir despair, tearfully watched these dying souls and broken hearted yelled when he lost them to death; but had started while a teenager trying to give meaning to his future. Though he claims his many questions to God about life remains unanswered, life in ‘Beth-za-tha’ answered two, one about a meaningful future and the other about missionary commitment. And now he is starting here all geared up for that, but fears how good he would be able to do this within the limitations of his pastoral duties. A challenging true fear indeed!
He was born in the simple Kottakuzhiyil family, Krishnapuram, Kayamkulam, on 08 May 1986. The only luxury his father could barely offer him was studies, study as much as he wanted. His home parish is St. John’s CSI Church, Kayamkulam. He studied in Govt. U.P. School, Krishnapuram, CMS High School Puthupplly, Kayamkulam, +2 in Bishop Hodges Higher Secondary School and B.A. Economics at the Bishop Moore College, both in Mavelikkara. He was very active in the church and its youth programs. He liked public speaking and preaching and painstakingly prepared them. It was when he was planning to join for P.G at the CMS College in Kottayam that Rev. Ninan Jacob pushed him off to Kerala United Theological Seminary, Kannammoola, Trivandrum for his B.D. He graduated in March 2012. His probations, he did at the Vellore ‘Bet-za-tha’ and at the St. John’s CSI church under Chittar Malayora Mission and accepted his Deaconship on 5th April 2013. He lost his Deacon’rs robe to that of a Vicar while he was at the Ascension Church as Asst. Vicar.
He is with family and without family. With family because he has his evangelist father Mr. David Daniel of South East Asia Mission Ecumenical Programme and his house wife mother Mrs. Susan Daniel and his only younger brother living in Krishnapuram, Kayamkulam and without family because he is here without a a soul mate and wife to fill in the now silent Sevanailayam Parsonage. Ascension Church parsonage No. 2 couldn’t find him a proper woman for wife, may be Sevananilayam parsonage can. Let us all pray he gets luck in the Sevananilayam office and Sevananilayam parsonage.
